Streetscooter

The Streetscooter is a successful vehicle of its kind in the new vehicle class (Short Distance Vehicle, SDV).

In times of climate change and rapidly rising gasoline prices, the demand for more energy-efficient and ecological vehicles is growing.

IBG participated early in an R&D project of the RWTH Aachen to realize a new production concept for the series production and new development of electric vehicles, in particular the Streetscooter project. This breaks the “vicious circle” of small quantities in order to be sustainable.

As part of this R&D project, a mass-producible and emission-free electric vehicle ready for production was developed, offering the user real added value and making it accessible to the mass market as a short distance solution.

The concept offers customers a cost-effective, economically efficient and compact electric transport vehicle as an alternative to conventional vehicles with internal combustion engines. The Streetscooter excels especially in urban traffic.

Above all, for companies that work in the area of letter and parcel delivery. The Streetscooter has already fully met the expectations of Deutsche Post with the appropriate box-type truck body configuration, loading capacity, and safety standards. In particular, the total cost of ownership (TCO) show a significant economic advantage. In the meantime, Deutsche Post has acquired Streetscooter GmbH and there are already 1,000 Streetscooters in use. The production of another 10,000 Streetscooters is planned for the near future.

Above all, the Streetscooter offers sustainable economic advantages in the light of the approximately 200 stops and access procedures during daily deliveries.

Customized small series are made possible by short development times and low investment costs.

As a system supplier of leading automobile manufacturers and active partner, IBG provided the project with innovative technologies and know-how, investing not only in the present, but especially in the future.
