Seal assembly

As part of the sun/panoramic roof installation, IBG was faced with the challenge of integrating the seal for a roof into the assembly in a completely automated process. The solution to this problem was provided by IBG with the development of the seal application head.

This system offers the possibility of integrating the manual processes, which consist of “surface cleaning” and “application of the adhesive seal,” into a fully automatic manufacturing process. By means of an innovative camera controller, the application head covers the roof section of the body and cleans the roof flange intended for the seal.

Subsequently, the adhesive seal is applied circumferentially by the parallel application head. Thus, the cycle time for this manufacturing process is reduced significantly compared to manual assembly.

With the combination of the seal application head and sunroof assembly, IBG has succeeded in developing an automated concept of complete roof integration.
